The Past

The Dorchester Hotel truly is a modern take on a historic treasure. For 129 years, the tall brick building at 172 Hurontario Street has been a landmark heritage building in Collingwood’s downtown core. The building was first built in 1895 and was originally named The Dominion Hotel. It was later restructured into apartment buildings, and then back to a hotel with a new (and more established) name, The Dorchester. Not only was The Dorchester building originally one of Collingwood’s first hotels, it’s also rumored to have kick-started Stompin Tom’s career, and had the town’s very first elevators! Guests were known to relish in the delights of the Dorchester’s ambiance while enjoying the excitement along Hurontario St from their balconies. We’re looking forward to the reopening of the Dorchester and bringing back the hotel’s glory days, with thoughtful and modern touches along the way!

MEET THE OWNERS

Meet Tammy and Chris Millsap, the owners of The Dorchester Hotel and the visionaries behind restoring our iconic Collingwood landmark. Born and raised in the Collingwood area, over the past twenty plus years Tammy and Chris have kept themselves busy with buying and selling real estate in the South Georgian Bay area, as well as establishing a variety of successful businesses. The Millsaps are not only passionate about Collingwood’s rich history, but they are determined (with their entrepreneurial spirit) to develop an outstanding boutique hotel experience, unlike any before. When the opportunity came to restore a heritage building right on the main street of downtown, they didn’t think twice - the location and the history was an opportunity they simply couldn’t pass up. Our heritage building was originally purchased in April of 2021, and after giving much thought (and working very closely with their architect and design team) The Millsaps eventually decided to move forward with reconstructing the apartment building into a boutique hotel once again. Over the past 18 months, The Millsaps have worked tirelessly to bring their design dreams to life alongside their amazing Interior Designer, Amy Harris of AG Designs. They are so excited to share with the community and guests traveling from near and far the new and (very much improved) Dorchester Hotel!
